FMCSA Advises Trucking Companies to Beware of Biennial Updates Scam

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is advising truckers and trucking companies to look out for scams related to the Department of Transportation (DOT)’s biennial updates.

According to reports, scammers are threatening fines against truckers who fail to pay when filing their DOT biennial update claims. However, these updates can be filed for free on the FMCSA’s website. The agency requires all trucking companies to update information like name, location, number of vehicles and number of drivers every two years.

While filing is free, the FMCSA does levy fines against companies who do not complete the update. A filing schedule can be found on the agency’s website.
