As many as 20 automakers announced they would equip their vehicles with rear seat reminders by 2025, according to reports.
The announcement comes after the Senate Commerce Committee passed legislation to require all automakers to install such technology. The July vote did not give a timeline for the change. However, a group of 20 automakers, including, General Motors, Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota and Honda have all agreed to include rear seat warning systems by the 2025 model year. The group of automakers represent about 98 percent of all vehicles sales in the United States.

The changes come as hot car deaths of children continue to garner medial attention. More than 800 children have died after being left in hot cars in the last 20 years.
