The New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers has filed a lawsuit against Tesla, claiming the electric vehicle giant has violated state franchise laws.
According to reports, the suit accuses Tesla of violating the law when it opened a fifth direct sale location. The state had previously allowed Tesla to open four locations. The suit also accuses the automaker of over-advertising gas savings and a bait and switch related to a special offer on the Tesla Model 3.
NJCAR’s complaint also accuses Tesla of misleading customers by advertising its autopilot system as “self-driving.” The automaker’s website does state that vehicles with the feature require a driver and that it does not make vehicles completely autonomous.
